Welcome to the JMHP Blog

A short introduction to what I'll be writing about — strength, coaching, and what actually moves the needle for busy adults.

Why this blog exists

After fifteen years coaching professional athletes — MLB, PGA Tour, SOCOM — I've shifted almost all of my work to busy adults. The training principles that move the needle for a pro shortstop also move the needle for a forty-five-year-old executive who wants to deadlift twice their bodyweight without blowing up their back. What changes is the dose, not the mechanism.

What I'll write about here

Three threads, mostly:

  • Programming principles — why the plan you're on looks the way it does, and when it's time to change it
  • Coaching philosophy — the parts of strength training that don't show up in the sets-and-reps spreadsheet
  • Performance science, translated — what the research actually says when you strip out the hype

No listicles. No "5 exercises you should be doing." Just writing that tries to earn your time.

If you're training with me, think of these as the longer-form version of things I'd say in a session. If you're not — welcome. I'm glad you're here.
