February 2025 Member of the Month: Kelly Bourgeois

For the month of February, I asked Kelly a series of questions to get to know her better, celebrate her accomplishments, and allow her to give others a little behind-the-scenes look at training with me at JM Health and Performance.

Build a picture of your time at JM Health and Performance (When did you start? How did you find JMHP and what were your feelings that first day?)

I started in February 2024. My daughter was already working with Jeremy so that’s how I came to work with him as well. I’m pretty sure I was nervous because I was so weak!

What was your “why” when you first started and how have you made progress toward that?

Well, my immediate reason was that it was my husband’s Christmas present (to him!) I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he said…..for you to start working out. And the reasoning behind that was really that for many years he had been trying to get me to do strength training to improve my quality of life not only now but more importantly into the future. And I think I’ve done that.

In what way has Jeremy supported you in achieving your goals?

Jeremy’s great! He’s not going to coddle you and makes it clear that your successes (or your lack of success) is completely up to you. He sprinkles in enough “good jobs” at the right moments so you don’t feel like you are praised for doing “ok” but that you really are making progress.

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you or a fun fact?

I have a Lego room in my house.

What are some of your favorite lifts or movements?

I really like just the plain old deadlift. I also like sit-up-ball-to-wall as a warm up exercise.

What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?

Squats (because I could barely do a body weight squat when I started)

What’s on your fitness bucket list?

Just general fitness I guess would be to keep improving! Get more PRs.

What are your hobbies? What’s on your general bucket list?

I love tennis but don’t play it often. Binging Netflix. Reading a good book. Legos (as already mentioned). Playing games (phase one, dominos). Travelling.
General bucket list: play more tennis! Wear a bikini (a real one!) Go to France. My bucket list is boring.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining or just starting with JM Health and Performance?

Do it! Never too early or too late to improve your health (and your life!).

Bonus!

One of the benefits that I didn’t foresee was a huge difference in my cholesterol levels. I’ve always teetered on the “high” end of all of the cholesterol markers. I attribute this reduction to
1. Exercise (which I think played the largest part)
and
2. Increasing my protein intake (Jeremy= more protein! more protein!) which likely led to my eating less carbs and fats.
